Come to spectacular Thunder Bay!
Known for its unique attractions and warm hospitality, Thunder Bay is Lake Superior’s largest city on either the Canadian or American shoreline.
Lake Superior itself is the biggest and most beautiful of the Great Lakes and the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area.  Visitors can take advantage of Thunder Bay’s perfect location to enjoy the water – take a harbour tour by sailboat or kayak down the McIntyre River in early morning to greet the sun rising over the Sleeping Giant – one of the area’s many interesting landmarks.
Conference attendees are invited to come a few days early and enjoy a fly-in wilderness adventure: fishing, canoeing or kayaking.

Thunder Bay is home to the largest population of Finns outside of Scandinavia – the Bay & Algoma shopping area and our world-famous HOITO restaurant in the historic Finnish Heritage Building are at the heart of this fascinating cultural district. Ontario's Northwest region has a large Aboriginal population whose art is displayed and culture is celebrated at local galleries throughout the area.
The Fort William First Nation also cares for one of our most panoramic lookouts – Mount McKay - where a spectacular view of the lake and the Sleeping Giant awaits.
Fort William Historical Park is the largest reconstruction of a fur trading fort in North America – its 42 historical buildings along with their costumed interpreters will take you on a time travel adventure, bringing this thrilling period in Canadian history to life.
Green spaces abound in the city and countryside. To the east, Eagle Canyon Adventures boasts two suspension footbridges across the canyon with one laying claim to being the longest in Canada!  And their new ZIP line for the more adventurous is also the longest in the country.
You will double your pleasure if you tour nearby Ouimet Canyon– a 20 minute natural wilderness walk to the two lookout pods of this provincial park will definitely please your senses.
The Amethyst Mine Panorama is home to North America’s largest reserve of amethyst, Ontario’s beautiful purple gemstone. Visitors are invited to have the thrill of digging your own amethyst and taking home a ‘treasure’ from the Canadian Shield.
Sleeping Giant Provincial Park along with historic Silver Islet, once home to the richest silver mine in the world can delight natural history and photographers for days.
Thunder Bay also boasts great eateries and taste treats – like Finnish pancakes, homemade perogies and our popular toasted Persian – complete with pink icing.  It is a Thunder Bay tradition!
Come visit – we’ll gladly show you around!
